When it came to her sister, she didn't exist anymore, and I had a hard time believing it. Same with her sister, her feelings for her seemed 'too much'. It's like ok I understand that you lost her and it's a tragedy but please stop mentioning her every other pages. What I also really dislike was her constant thinking and talking about her mother. I understand what the author was doing, trying to depict a FMC who is different and that's something great, but I don't know maybe she was too cold and then too in love with Charlie by the end, it was a big stretch between the beginning and the end. I absolutely loved it.Īs for Book Lovers, I think what I didn't like was Nora, the FMC. The banter and the style was quite different from Elena Armas' books and less cheesy as well. I liked them all, and especially THG, which I thought was amazing. Some parts were good but overall I think it wasn't really great.ĭisclaimer: I'm fairly new to the genre, I've only read The American Roommate Experiment + The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas and The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I've just finished Book Lovers by Emily Henry and well I didn't really enjoyed it. The main characters spend most of the book dating (and having sex with) other people. When they get together at the end of the book he tells her that he loves her and wants commitment with her and only with her because she is “special” and “not like the other girls” and BARF. It is a harrowingly detailed account of a woman in an abusive relationship - both emotional and physical (see mention of date rape, above), and the friend who pines for her while sleeping with a bunch of women (including the heroine’s roommate) because he’s decided to have fun while he waits for her to get over her abusive boyfriend. SECOND OF ALL, this is NOT a romantic comedy. Also, this happens in the second half of the book, which brings me to my second point. And then she convinces herself she imagined the whole thing. The heroine’s abusive boyfriend tries to suffocate her and then plays it off like he thought she was just really aroused. If I had known about this I would never have read the book in the first place. FIRST OF ALL, major trigger warning for a date rape described in explicit and horrifying detail.
